Page Title Wrong In Magazine Template

Postby smelehan » 03 Feb 2010, 21:57

Hi,

I have a static home page with my blog on a seperate dedicated page. I was trying to setup the magazine template on my static home page, but when I did I noticed that it changed the page title of the page to the page title of the last blog post listed in the categories section. I am not sure if this is an issue with the theme or an issue with a the plugin (headspace) that I use for seo. Any suggestions? My site is libertyandpride.com

Thanks,
Sean

Probably a plugin issue. I couldn't find the magazine layout page on your site, though.

My apologies for not getting back sooner, I have been trying to solve this issue on my own so I wouldn't have to bug you. If you wouldn't mind, would you please take a look and see if you have any suggestions. The page title issue with the magazine template still persists. I have been through all of the support forums for my SEO plugin (headspace), but I just can't seem to solve the problem. I will leave the magazine template up on my home page for a while so that you can see what I am talking about. Also, I am not sure if the problem has something to do with the fact that my homepage is a static page? Another problem I have run into is that when I enable the magazine template on my blog page, it doesn't work, nothing shows up. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A posts page will contain your posts - I don't think a specific template can be used to override it. Instead of using a magazine template as your posts page, why don't you use your magazine template directly (and not explicitly specify a posts page)? You could call your Magazine page "Blog", if you want.

I will look into your specific issue and let you know in a few hours - I am really busy right now.

That makes sense that I can't change the template on the blog page. Sorry, I am new to this stuff. My real issue is that when I use the magazine template on a static page it changes the page title to the page title of the very last post listed in the page. For example the page title of my static home page is "Life, Liberty, Property, and Conservative Values" however, if I use the magazine template on that page the page title is changed to something like "Obama Invites Republicans For Health Care Meeting" which is the page title of one of my blog posts.

I couldn't reproduce your problem on a local instance. So try disabling the plugin temporarily and see if the name of the page changes. Don't worry you will not lose the SEO-specific settings you have made on your pages.

Yep, that is definitely the problem. I disabled the plugin, and the page title was right. Dang, I don't suppose their is anyway to port the info from Headspace2 to the built in SEO in suffusion?

It just occurred to me that I have mislead you into thinking that I was talking about the actual title of the website (the words in the header). The problem is that activating the magazine template changes the the meta tag <title> to the <title> of the last blog post listed on the page.

No, I understood your problem perfectly. There is the "blog title" that appears in the header and there is the "page title" that appears as the name of the browser window. You were talking about the latter (SEO plugins don't really change the blog title, but they change the page title). Since I don't have that plugin I couldn't reproduce this at my end.

That is quite a powerful plugin you are using. I am sure that you have already checked the obvious title settings, and all of your forced title rewrites are correct. Another thing I have seen is that can be helpful with problems like this is that the order of the titles be set with the blog title being listed last in the meta.php.

<?php wp_title('&laquo;', true, 'right'); ?> <?php bloginfo('name'); ?>

But I only know enough about that stuff to get myself in trouble ;)

Hate to see you lose your ability to use such an awsome seo.
