"No Sidebar" layout doing funny things on the homepage

here's my strange and convoluted problem:

I wanted a homepage with a slideshow and no sidebar or content. So I decided to use the Custom Layout and control the homepage with widgets. However, the Featured Content widget does not scale AND crop to my custom size. So I abandoned that and decided to use the "No Sidebar" layout and assigned the Featured Content to show on the main page. This worked in that the slideshow now properly scaled and cropped my images proportionally. However, attached is what the rest of the page looks like. Also, the Widget Area Below Header and Widget Area Above Header are both enabled, but neither of them are showing up. I only get the main Sidebar 1 widget showing strangely way off to the left and posts showing below the slideshow. I've created a custom page called "Home" and assigned it as my homepage under Settings » Reading. What am I doing wrong?

I am not seeing any attachment. In any case, try going to the featured content settings and enable duplicate posts to be shown.

I have a similar problem to an aspect of your post - with the widget area below header not showing.
I wonder whether the "Enable Duplicate Posts" suggestion fixed that as well. Though I dont see the reelvence in my case mind you.

The Widget Area Below Header and Widget Area Above Header are both enabled, but the lower of them is not showing up.

Its a Magazine template homepage, set as static, showing excerpts only (other parts disabled), with zero sidebars. I am trying to put a third party slider "EasyRotator" in the area which works fine above the header. I tried another widget in the area that works elsewhere and that doesnt work either.

No you wouldnt have as I only put the slider in the upper widget area to verify if the slider was working - its was removed after. I have put it back in for your confirmation, rechecked - in Layouts - No Sidebars - Both enabled!

Do you have anything in the widget area? The thing is, the "No Sidebars" template is different from the "No Sidebars" layout. Simply put, you cannot enable the "No Sidebars" template along with the "Magazine" template since each page can only be given one template. Consequently, setting the Widget Areas to show under Layout -> No Sidebars will not make a difference to the appearance of the Magazine template. Basically you need to enable the widget area from Suffusion Options -> Sidebars -> Widget Area Below Header. I am not sure you have done that, as I don't see the widget area on any page on your site (not just the Magazine template). Either that, or you don't have any widgets there.

The Page is using Magazine template.
In the "additional options for Suffusion" Layout tab - Zero, Will inherrit from default "No sidebars" layout
In the admin view of the Suffusion Options(Suffusion Options Manager) under Layouts - No Sidebars Tab - Both Enabled
Using a logic plugin (Display WIdgets) Show on checked - front page - so you wont see the one in question on every page. Although I have just unchecked it to see if it the contents are exposed on other pages - and its not seemingly showing on any pages.
There were no other widgets in this area. It seems no other widgets are showing in there, just tried Text widget - nothing showing.

As I said, that is not the right place to enable the widget areas. From my post:

Basically you need to enable the widget area from Suffusion Options -> Sidebars -> Widget Area Below Header.

The "No Sidebars" setting takes effect only if you have enabled the widget areas from the page above.
