Forum request... (?)

Postby beginner8 » 16 Jan 2010, 16:45

Is there a function to close a topic when its resolved...? For example, some of my topics have been resolved or no longer need help and it would be better if they can be removed...

This is not implemented or configured in the forum installation here, but is in good practice in many forums that the starter of a thread re-edits his first posting and sets an "[SOLVED]" at the beginning of the line

that shows that the topic is solved, that mostly 95% there is a solution for the topic in the thread and other users will find that useful information, too

that is not a good idea at all. A forum is an archive of knowledge.
Users would ask the same questions over and over....
I for sure would not do that!

is it demanded too much that people who have questions first search the forum if there is an answer already before they post their questions?
How should this work when the answered questions were deleted?

I meant "close" topics who have been resolved, not remove! That way questions who have been resolved dont need to crowd the space and people can still do a research to find these resolved questions. That's just my opinion, and I believe I have right to one...

that is a good idea.

But that is mostly a function for the admins or the board owner, I checked a user cannot close a topic which he started.
