Why Do Post Views Counters Not Work with Suffusion?

Postby supertrooper » 14 May 2012, 09:10

The Wordpress post views counter "Recently Popular" was installed in a widget on my website in combination with the Suffusion Theme. Everything looked great, post hits were getting counted, but then on the second day I realized something was wrong:

1) Posts were showing a count number, which was 3 to 4 times more than indicated by statcounter.com. e.g. 350 instead of 100.
2) New posts often started with a count number of 50 to 60 after the first click.
3) There are several similar plugins available and I must have tried at least 10 different ones.
4) All post views counters show the same phenomenon of "over-counting".

My question is whether there is a compatibility problem of such plugins with the Suffusion Theme and if so, whether there is a way to resolve this problem?

I don't believe there is any compatibility issue with Suffusion - a theme doesn't reload your content repeatedly to facilitate overcounting. If you have suspicious counts, it maybe that the the post counter plugins are written in a manner not as sophisticated as your stats counter.

I don't do freelance work (for Suffusion or otherwise), so please don't contact me for quotes or offers.
