When activating certain plugins dashboard does not function

Postby delton02 » 26 May 2012, 07:54

I recently downloaded and activated the "Social Media Widget" plugin. Once activated this plugin caused my dashboard to stop functioning. For instance, when I clicked the pages tab, the following error message appeared: "The website cannot display the page HTTP 500...Most likely causes: •The website is under maintenance. •The website has a programming error. What you can try: Refresh the page. Go back to the previous page.

The only tabs which I can access (while this plugin is active) are: Appearance, Plugins, Tools. Even the dashboard "Home" tab does not function.

Does anyone have suggestions to correct this problem? I would like to use the "Social Media Widget" plugin in order to add social media links and sharing site profiles on the blog page of my website, using Suffusion theme for Wordpress.

There is probably a compatibility issue with another plugin. These things happen. Because there are thousands of plugins from thousands of developers, all who develop in completely different ways, there are going to be issues that arise from time-to-time. These are more prevalent, however, from plugins that make system-wide changes (such as SEO Packs). Try disabling, one at a time, the other plugins until you find that one that is breaking my widget. Then e-mail me and tell me which plugin it was. I will then try to fix it. Unless I know what plugin is breaking it, I won't be able to fix it, ya see?

I quoted from the FAQ of your plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/soc ... idget/faq/

Thanks for this advise. I tried deactivating the first plugin on my list "Akismet" while the "Social Media Widget" plugin remained active and now everything works again.

In other words, it appears that these two plugins have a conflict.

That is a serious problem for the Social Media Widget plugin. Akismet is one of the most widely used Wordpress plugins that there is. I know which I would rather have active on my sites and it wouldn't be the Social Media one.
