Show Sidebar only on Posts [SOLVED]

Postby raubvogel » 28 May 2012, 06:01

Hi,

is there a solution to show a single right sidebar on posts only (not on static pages and so on)? I think http://aquoid.com/news/2010/09/suffusio ... nd-tricks/ section 3 shows how this works, but I cannot get it run.

Best regards

The easiest way is to set a default layout for whichever of the styles that you use most. So if lots of posts wanted with 1 sidebar set this as the default. If mainly pages with no side bar then set this as the default.

Then when you create say page and you don't want the 1 sidebar in the PAGE EDIT WINDOW go below the edit area and click additional options for Suffusion the layout and then no sidebars. Or vice versa. If you can't see additional options for Suffusion click screen options top right and turn them on.

so select one or the other as the default and then just select the alternative when you create the next page or post. If you are asking is there a default for pages and a different default for posts then the answer is No there isn't.

This is exactly what I want: sidebar (no, left, right etc.) option for pages and posts. In section 3 http://aquoid.com/news/2010/09/suffusio ... nd-tricks/ : is this a possibility to do that? There we can set single.php template to have a right side bar. Is this correct? How do I do that?

You now say you want no sidebars on pages or posts is that correct? If it is I am confused.

That post on Sayontan's blog is talking about child themes and making your own template.

There is now a Suffusion framework for a Child Theme. Read up on Child Themes on the Wordpress Codex as well as on Sayontans blog.

To make it clear: pages should have no sidebar, posts should have sidebar. I do not want to set the sidebar option for each page or post. The idea is to override the single.php template file in a suffusion child theme to set sidebar for posts. In the suffusion options the default sidebar layout is set to none.

Thanks for Your replies!

What about archive views? E.g. categories, tags, dates etc?

In Suffusion Settings -> Layouts you cannot set a different sidebar layout for pages (no sidebar) and posts (right sidebar). When I set a sidebar setting for categories, tags, dates etc. this setting is not used for single posts (single.php). Pages and Posts use the Suffusion Settings -> Layouts -> Default Sidebar Layout, they are not separated. New feature required?

Because this setting is not supposed to be used for single posts.

Definitely not. I was merely asking to see if I should give you code to put in or if I should tell you to manually set each static page's layout. For now I will suggest the latter.
