How to add Pinterest follow button in the sidebar?

Postby helen » 28 May 2012, 10:06

Hello-

I have been using this theme for a while and so far everything works great! Thanks a lot for your wonderful job!

I would like to add a follow button in my right sidebar - user clicks that will open my Pinterest home page. Just as the Twitter button and FB button which I currently have in my site: http://helenhou.com/

Pinterest provides some sample code in their help page: http://pinterest.com/about/goodies/ - however, I am not sure where should I add these codes to?

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Helen.

I have figured out a way to do this - using a text widget and copy the following code:
<a href="http://pinterest.com/USERNAME/"><img src="http://passets-ec.pinterest.com/images/about/buttons/big-p-button.png" width="60" height="60" alt="Follow Me on Pinterest" /></a>

However, it looks pretty ugly and the Pinterest button is not alligned with the FB and Twitter buttons.

How about trying this?

In Suffusion Options > Backend > Custom Includes > Custom Styles put the following code

Code: Select all
#text-3 {margin-top:-30px; padding-left:80px;}

Looks better imho. You can play around with the numbers to get something that you like better possibly.

Hey Colin,

Thanks for your timely reply and sorry for my late response, it has been quite busy recently.

I have added the code following your instructions, it looks much better now. However, in the Follow Me section, there is a blank area to the left of Twitter and FB icon, is there a way to insert the Pintrest icon there to make it look like a line?

Thanks a lot for your help,
Helen

You can try to add at Suffusion Options -> Backend -> Custom Includes -> Custom Styles :
Code: Select all
aside#suf-subscription-2 .dbx-content {background:none;padding-left:0;padding-right:0;width:130px;margin-left:90px;}
aside#text-3 {background:none;margin-left:0;padding-left:0;width:95px;margin-top:-80px;}

Drake,

You rock. I tried the code and it worked pretty well. Thank you so much. I really love the community here and feel so lucky that I select the best theme...

Thanks again!

One more question-

With more and more users are visiting my websites http://www.helenhou.com, I got lots of comments regarding it is hard for the readers to easily visit the blog archives. Is there a way we can make the blog archives as a drop-down list - after I click it, it will show a list of articles posted in that month?

I don't see how posts can be submenus of a monthly archive tab. But I can suggest to try to increase readability of archive pages by using excerpts or tiles to display those pages, even with some posts in full versions and the rest shortened.. You can set these things at Suffusion Options -> Layouts -> Date Archive Views. Furthermore, below, at Layout: Excerpt / List / Tile / Mosaic / Full you can format those excerpts or tiles in an attractive way.

I have a similar problem, but given I have version 4.4.4, I used the "follow me" box - so I just had to select the already set out icons. I have twitter, g+ and youtube, but there isn't an option for pinterest or tumblr. Does anyone know how to add pinterest and/or tumblr to the predesigned "follow me" box. By in large, this is an excellent theme, just trying to wrap my head around this one. Any assistance greatly appreciated! :)
