Side bar appearing at bottom of page

Postby Jamie » 28 May 2012, 19:27

Hi!

My one side bar is showing up at the end of the page. I have not switched any of the settings. My site is: http://www.creatingreallyawesomefreethings.com/

Do you know how I can fix this? Thank you!

One of your posts probably has invalid mark-up with a missing / unbalanced tag is the usual problem.

If you go to older views you will see that the page there displays correctly. To find the troublesome one reduce the number of posts displayed on a page in the standard Wordpress option and then find the page of posts with the problem and then the troublesome post.

Your problems start from:
<p><center><span style="font-size: large;">16:&#8221;<a href="http://rootsandwingsco.blogspot.com/2009/10/gifts-for-dads-and-grandpas.html">You&#8217;re the world&#8217;s best dad, hands down!</a><a href="http://creatingreallyawesomefreethings.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/8-add-details-like-name-and-trace-hands-spray-with-sealant-and-voila-you-are-done.jpg"><img class="aligncenter wp-image-8932" title="handmade father's day gifts" src="http://creatingreallyawesomefreethings.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/8-add-details-like-name-and-trace-hands-spray-with-sealant-and-voila-you-are-done.jpg" alt="handmade father's day gifts" width="424" height="700" /></a></span><center></p>

Any <opening> tag need a </closing> tag for a correct markup. Your post is full of <center> tags without </center>.

Anyway, <center> tag should be avoided, instead use the provided CSS property "text-align:center;". (instead <p><center>.....</center></p>, use just <p style="text-align:center;">.....</p>).

check your mark-up at validator.w3c and correct the errors.

That is good to know... I often stick in <center> to make things centered! I fixed the post... THANK YOU!!! One last question, what is the best way to make a blank space in a post? I end up throwing this "&nbsp;" in a lot. The blank space doesn't seem to automatically happen between paragraphs...? Am I doing something wrong?

No, the <p> tag works as expected, there is space after closing </p>. By eg. look after the image from point 8, there is a lot of space before point 9. Where you don't have space, things are enclosed in <div> tags. For those div's either you can define margin-bottom with some pixels <div style="margin-bottom:20px;">, either make use of "separator" class as you does now. Also you can switch to HTML Editor and replace all those div's with <p> tags.

I suggest to use TinyMCE Advanced for formatting your posts correctly (if you allready use it, make sure that you have checked the last option from it's settings - stop wordpress removing <p> and <br/> tags).

Also, set the default font for your content at Suffusion Options -> Typography and stop declaring the same font for every single paragraphs in your posts.
