Well, I got some help and figured it out, but the above solution didn't quite work for me - it partially helped, but one of the widgets was still blank. Only after adding .sliderContent { position: static; } did all the widgets show up correctly.
With luck, Safari will switch to a newer version of webkit soon, and that problem will go away. And now to find a windows machine and test on IE...
