Missing Header in Suffusion in Foreground

I have read about 8 posts on this - but my header is missing. I need the linkable foreground header not the background header. As a foreground it's empty as a background the header WILL display but is not linkable.

current settings;
MENU: Wordpress: Appearance- Header - nothing selected
MENU Appearance: Suffusion Options - Skinning
1. Default or Custom? Custom Styles
2 Header background? none (also tried "predefined" with an empty image field )
3. Header background image? empty field

4. Foreground image type? use predefined

6. Blog Title Header colour (black) "If you have choose to hide your header (in the layout section) then this setting will be ignored." no idea what this means, nothing in Layout.
MENU: Appearance: Suffusion Options - Other Graphical Elements - Header
1. Header is outside
2. Blog title header alignment: Left
3. Left
4. Above

Is it just me or are there a riduculous number of people who have an issue with adding and displaying a linkable header?
PS I clear the Cache on my server and also my browser cache but if it's that, I'm going to be very unhappy yet strangely happy

Changed "Header Background Image Type" to "Use Custom Gradient" (not nothing and not predefined image) and it showed up, is clickable and what I want. I have no idea why setting a background image that doesn't exist to a custom gradient would work but it did.
