Need BASIC info on widget

I am new to WP, and not at all adept, but I am trying to use one of the adhoc widget areas in Suffusion. I see that there is short code I am supposed to "invoke," but exactly how do I do that? I can't tell which of all the places in the editor I should be working, and once there, what exactly I should do/where exactly I should insert it.

I appreciate anyone who is willing to show me this basic protocol.

You invoke it in any page or post.

In the page or post edit window where you create your content just put in the shortcode between and including the square brackets. Then save the page / post. When you display that page or post in your site the ad-hoc widget area will be displayed wherever you put it in the content with whatever widget that you placed in the area.
