Change "Posted by" to "Written by" in Child Theme

Postby fitninja » 11 Aug 2012, 10:01

Hello,

I initially posted this in the wrong section, which I have since deleted.

I searched and found a solution to a question I had, but of course it led to more questions!

1. I edited the actions.php file to change the bylines from "Posted by" to "Written by". I would like to make these changes upgrade-proof but unsure how. I'm using a Suffusion child theme but I don't know how to edit the child theme's functions.php file with the proper code (I'm assuming that's where the changes would go?).

2. I'm using the Tile Layout for my category pages and would like to change the icon that appears next to the author's byline. I found a modification on the forum that allows me to keep the icons displayed and I would like to use a tiny version of the author's avatar instead of the icon. (Just that icon, I'd like to keep the other icons.) Is this even possible?

Thanks in advance! This is truly a fantastic theme with endless possibilities.

I was able to bumble my way through #2.

Anyways, I would still like guidance on #1, if anyone is in the know.

You could fake this via the translation file. Basically if your locale is en_US, copy suffusion.po to a file called en_US.po, then put in the translation text for this line. You might want to create the en_US.po file in the translation folder of a child theme. Be sure to make the edit in a tool like POEdit, so that when you save the file it automatically generates the en_US.mo file.
