manage theme

Hi there,

is it possible to manage and customize the theme without activate it?

On my live blog it is strange to customize the theme when the blog is online.

Are there some tools, plugins, whatever?

Thx and sorry for my english :-)

Frank this is a general WordPress Question and you should look there at www.wordpress.org for information as well.

Well, you can search for "WP Maintenance Mode", URL http://bueltge.de/wp-wartungsmodus-plugin/101/suggest

This will present a message that your Site is in maintenance mode
but, as a logged-in admin you can work with the theme and check how it will look

the best way is to have a local server at your PC, look for XAMP at http://www.apachefriends.org
you can install WP at that server, tweak the theme, export it and import that at your website

so you will be able to test and tweak as you like

Hi Connie,

i can give it a try with xampp.

Are the modifications put in the theme-directory only or in the mysql-database of WP?

thx

Frank,

the modifications are stored in the database and will be exported by the export-script

when you import that in the target-installation, they will be entered into that database

you should check whether all the theme-related images are available on the server in the same directories with all the necessary rights

afteractivating the script at the target host., importing the script you will see if all elements are available (background-images etc.)
