Loading featured post widget and sidebar first thing

Post by kurdi » 09 Sep 2010, 14:56

Is there a way to load the featured posts widget and the sidebar before the main content of the page?

On my site (www.freewaregenius.com) the featured posts widget is topmost, but users have to wait until the main content below it loads for the widget to start working.

Also, the tabbed sidebar widget takes way too much time to load (i.e. contract). Is there any way to speed this up?

Thanks.

I don't believe either of these is possible. For legitimate reasons the JQuery code is run when your page is fully loaded (it checks the document state "ready" before execution), otherwise you might get serious errors. I don't know if it is possible to bind the JQuery code to other states and for elements other than "document", but I do believe there will be a significant rise in complexity even if it was possible.

I understand. Thanks Sayontan for the response.

I am wondering if you have any other thoughts regarding possibly making the tabbed sidebar load faster though :D

The tabbed sidebar is very fast, actually. It all comes down to how fast your page as a whole is. Take a look at http://mynethome.net/blog, for example. The tabbed sidebar doesn't take much time to load there. As I mentioned in my previous post, you are seeing a delay only because the script that actually does the rearrangement is running after your entire page has loaded.
