Save your options once from any page, then open the site.

Ok guys, I gave up on it (but I'm curious if it is working for you, in which case it could be some kind of conflict with any of my installed plugins).

Anyway, I achieved what I was aiming for differently: I set the page to the standard "No Sidebars" template and then I hardcoded the php call to the Shoutbox via the Exec-PHP plugin (in conjunction with the Deactivate Visual Editor plugin for that page).
