SEO for Homepage when using 'Magazine' layout

Post by anarchyartwork » 13 Apr 2015, 07:51

Hi all,

My site's home page (http://www.resmagazine.co.uk) is, essentially, a blank page with the Magazine template set up within Suffusion. As a result the Yoast SEO Plugin shows a bad rating for the homepage (and I have noticed my homepage isn't discoverable on a Google search whilst other content is).

I have filled out Suffusion's SEO section however I feel that the Magazine layout is causing the Home page to be undiscoverable whilst technically it's a blank page. Could anyone offer some advise on this? Do I have the wrong idea?

Thanks,

Peter

Hi Peter, I had a look at your website using gtmetrix.com and the results are not very good. For example...

Page Speed Grade: 60% D and for
YSlow Grade: 73% C
Your loading time is around 5 seconds.

If you use the above mentioned URL you will be able to work out what is happening to your website. You can also go to the following URL https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/ to check using Google.

You can also check my post http://mbrsolution.com/blogging/how-to- ... dpress.php which can help you improve Suffusion speed.

Let us know how you go.

Regards

Hi mbrsolution,

Thank you for your reply. Although I must admit, a lot of these fixes are entirely new to me.
The main issues seem to be specifying image dimensions (which is a little confusing), Serve scaled images (I suppose this is the same thing) and Leverage browser caching (Is this as easy as using a Wordpress plugin for caching?)

Also, does a gtmetrix score affect a site's SEO?

Thank you again for your help,

Peter
