Move sidebar to left

Postby wendyc » 13 Jan 2011, 17:11

Hi there. I love Suffusion as a customizable theme, but I'm having the Devil's own job of moving the sidebar to the left. I don't have the Suffusion Options submenu in the Appearance menu so I can't move it that way. I also want to move the main navigation menu to the very top of the page. Is that possible without the Suffusion menu options?

Apart from that, it's a brilliant theme and I really do like it.

Okay. I want to move the sidebar to the left and move the main navigation menu to the top of the page. Templates won't change it for me so what do I do?

I think you missed the link in my previous post. You can configure all of those through the settings options, which are at the bottom left of your admin page.

I used Suffusion/templates/single left sidebar and it won't move.

There doesn't seem to be an option to move the main menu. It's not that I didn't look. I did, and can't see it. Since it's not immediately obvious to me I'd appreciate a walk-through on what to actually do instead of a link to the "We moved it" page or the Suffusion main menu in the Dashboard. That's why I'm here. If it was that simple I'd have done it already and not needed to come here for help.

Well, unfortunately I am having a really tough time figuring out what you can see and what you have tried, because your explanations aren't helping. So here is a very basic breakdown:

1. You should be able to see an options menu at the bottom of the panel on the left. Can you? I haven't seen a word from you saying that you see it (apart from your first post where you state that you don't see any options).
2. If you can see options, go to Sidebars and Widgets, then Sidebar 1, then switch its position to the left. It is really that simple.

Aha! Didn't see it. Mind you, I was up really late last night.

Thanks, it's working now.

Okay, here's where I'm at now. This is what I've got at the moment:

And this is what I want it to look like:

How do I make that happen, please? As far as I can tell, it'll mean getting rid of the existing menu and replacing it with one of my own. I don't want categories showing up on it at all. Categories can go in the sidebar.

Same problem.

I want a single left sidebar.

The template options have no effect whatsoever - left/ right / double / single - instists on a single righthand sidebar. Pity.

Using - 3.7.7

cheers!

Doh!

Worked this out.

Missed an important step.

Pages that require a particular template need it selected when creating a page or post - select box on right side of edit page.

Hope this helps others.

Would be nice to set this site wide. Understand, however, why it is done this way.

Lovely template.

Cheers!

:? :? You can set this through Sidebar Configuration -> Sidebar Layout. It lets you set the number of sidebars, then you can visit the page for each sidebar and say what you want to do with it and where you want it (the diagram there should help you). The templates are to be used mainly if you want something different from the regular options. See http://mynethome.net and http://mynethome.net/blog. The first uses the No Sidebars template, while the latter uses the generic settings.
