Lost Widgets

Postby Mark » 03 Feb 2010, 13:12

Hi Sayontan,

I am a newbie who has finally figured out enough of the basics to get my website up and running. It still needs a lot of tweaking, plugins, etc., but for the most part it is functional. It needs a lot of polishing, but that will come over the next few weeks. Thanks for all you do with Suffusion. I looked at a lot of themes before selecting yours. It is great and I have enjoyed getting it to work. It's obvious that you are a genius at theme design!

I'm having a problem with widgets. I install them, edit them, save them, view them, and then they disappear from the WP widget sidebars. Earlier today I installed 4 RSS Feeds that were all visible and functional. Suddenly, having not made any adjustments to the theme or WP, 3 of them disappeared from the list. I have searched the forum for solutions, bit couldn't find anything.

My url is www.DBC-Contractors.com.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Well, mostly this means that the browser's cache is refreshed...
did you clear the browser's cache, did you try to check with another browser?

which feeds did you want to add?
Where? In which widget section / sidebar?

I see "Entries RSS" and "Comments RSS" in the "Miscellaneous"-section.

The problem is on the Widgets page in WP where you drag widgets to various widget areas. The Home Depot incoming feed as worked fine - it is the original one activated in Sidebar1. I wanted to add 3 more from This Old House: http://www.thisoldhouse.com/toh/rss/. I added one additional feed to Sidebar 1 and 2 feeds to Sidebar 2. Initially they stayed attached to the widget areas on the Widgets page and displayed on my website. When I went back to the Widgets page, only the original feed was appended to Sidebar 1, the other 3 had disappeared. I have tried this repeatedly with same result. Even adding 1 additional to Sidebar 2 gives same result. Wondering if there is a limit on how many incoming feeds the theme supports?

The "Entries RSS" and "Comments RSS" are for my outgoing feed that users can subscribe to.

I did nothing with the browser cache. Is refreshing the cache something that I should do on a regular basis when working on the site?

Thanks,

Mark

I'm please to report that my lost widgets have come home and have decided to stay for now. Yesterday I tried emptying the browser cache a few times per Connie's recommendation to no avail. I tried it again today and it seems to have solved the problem as the widgets are staying posted to the widget areas in WP and they are all appearing on the appropriate sidebars on my website. Nothing changed except for rebooting this morning. Would that have any bearing on what I have described?

Thanks, Connie, for solving this for me!

Regards,

Mark Ralph

Mark,

I am glad you are fine now. Well, sometimes it needs some "creative patience" and it will work!

Enjoy your day,
