Error and Change

Hello Sayontan,

I came across your theme yesterday and immidately removed the old one and installed yours. The Theme is Great and the simplicity wonderful. I read the bit on your reason for developing the theme and could not agree more about WP Themes.

Like everything new I have had a few problems and would appreciate your assistance. Please keep in mind that my overall knowledge on themes and especially html, php and etc(just joking) is limited.

I use WP 2.8 and hosting with dreamhost who installed WP as a one click. In the passed we use a plugin from wpml.org called sitepress-multilingual cms1.3.5 which works well when we wanted to translate English to Russian. I could easily activate the plugin a bit of setting up and away we went.

However, the minute I activate this plugin with Suffusion I get the following displayed directly under the header for five or six lines;

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/okho/okho.eu/wp-content/themes/suffusion/functions/filters.php on line 33

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/okho/okho.eu/wp-content/themes/suffusion/functions.php on line 529

I've read your topic with updating the PHP and not sure where to start. I understand that a PO file may be required but I never created one before when using this plugin. Fyi I removed WP completely before installing your theme.

The other change I would like to make is the Header font to Lucida Handwriting.

I will appreciate any advise you can give in solving this problem as I really love the theme. Btw my wife is already sick of hearing what all I can do with it.

Thanks Michael

Michael,
Sorry, I forgot to respond to this earlier. The error with WPML is surprising. While I can tell you how to fix the issues that you are seeing currently, I doubt that it will resolve the problem completely - the widget from the plugin seems to be messing up the layout in my case. Secondly, and more importantly, somehow the call that WPML makes to the functions in Suffusion for the navigation bar generation seem to fail - the navigation bar shows up with no content; the call made to "get_pages" from WPML returns a null value, causing my script to fail.

I took a look at the WPML code and saw something that is probably causing this error. They have a line in sitepress.class.php:
Code: Select all
            add_filter('get_pages', array($this, 'exclude_other_language_pages2'));

This line is removing the pages that Suffusion adds to the navigation bar and making get_pages return null. I have taken care of this by explicitly checking for this error, so for the next version you shouldn't see any such errors with WPML active. This is very funny behavior from WPML, though.

You would need a PO file if you wanted to translate things like the widget titles, and general text like "Posted by" etc. My understanding is that WPML helps you translate the content of your posts, not the UI design elements.

You can set the header font to Lucida Handwriting by using the "Custom Styles" option. You have to go to "Custom Styles" under "Custom CSS, JavaScript and RSS" and put in:

Code: Select all
#header {
        font-family: "Lucida Handwriting", cursive;
}

Note that this is not a browser-safe font, so it may not render correctly on all browsers.

Hi sayontan

Thanks for the information on the header It looks great.

With reference to the wpml, I have tried to re-install your theme and the latest 1.4 version of sitepress-ml-cms but still get the warning. I have located the line you highlighted but not sure what to do. Are you bascially saying that I have to wait till your next update and then try the plugin?

Sorry did say that this is new to me.

Thanks

You can upgrade to the next version of the theme - I have fixed it on my side. Note that you will not see the navigation bar, though.

Hello Sayontan

Just wanted to say that I've managed to get the WPML working fine with your update and still have the Nav bar. A BIG THANK YOU for the assistance and will be sortiing out your coffee.

I have looked at changing the font colour in the footer to highlight the links to Suffusion and your web site but cannot find it at the moment.

Hi,
For the footer the different elements have class "cred-left", "cred-center" and "cred-right". So to change any link's styles, use the "Custom Styles" option in "Custom CSS, Javascript and RSS" and set something like this:

Code: Select all
.cred-left a {
        color: #abcdef;
}

Put your own value for the color there.

Sayontan.
