Custom Sidebar Based On Custom Template

Postby Leper » 03 Apr 2012, 06:58

Hello,

I need to have 1 widget appear on all pages except 5. For each of these 5 custom templates, i need to have a different widget appear in the right sidebar.

All pages - same sidebar with same widgets
custom page template 1 - custom widget 1
custom page template 2 - custom widget 2
custom page template 3 - custom widget 3
custom page template 4 - custom widget 4
custom page template 5 - custom widget 5

what is the easiest way to do this? How would i go about creating 5 different widget areas?

Use a plugin like Widget Logic. You don't need a different sidebar for each page: you only need a different widget, which this plugin can help you build.

Hi, can you advise how you would go about converting my site to suffusion? It needs very different sidebars on each of the custom pages

I'm confused by all the options:
1) creating the syntax for widget logic seems very painful
2) http://aquoid.com/news/tag/ad-hoc-widgets/ and [suffusion-widgets id='?'], but i think this is for putting widgets into posts, rather than sidebars?
3) Using a child theme - http://aquoid.com/news/2010/09/suffusio ... nd-tricks/ suggests that this allows the numbers of sidebars to be managed, but not the contents of them. (Unless perhaps I can set sidebars=0 and then create them myself in the template?)

I'm not a great programmer but I can copy examples well, so that would be useful as part of the answer
