How to save settings in one Domain and transfer

Postby adamwestrop » 03 May 2012, 04:55

OK, so im not technical when it comes to Servers and FTP etc, I do know HTML and CSS though, and have done a few custom amends to Suffision on my existing domain.

What I would ultimately like to do, is being able to save my suffision settings, and all the custom CSS code, and then upload this saved theme to my other websites and then all the settings will be saved, so my 'template' is how I want it.....

The thing is, I use GoDaddy and just now looked in my files and see that the Suffision folder has a last update date of 2011 and the same with the child folders and .php elements etc that sit inside it.... So it seems all the changes I have been doing in the editor and saving, haven't been updating to the files in GoDaddy.

I know I could copy the code from all the templates, e.g. Comment template, CSS template and paste the code in the new domains Suffision editor (I ASSUME THIS WOULD WORK, COULD SOMEONE PLEASE CONFIRM?)...... However is there a way to upload my current modified settings of Suffision in my domain, to my FTP file at Godaddy, so it then says 'last updated date today' so I can then copy this suffision copy in another domain and all the settings etc will be saved..... So all I have to do is actually copy posts and pages???? PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Use the export and import within Suffusion. It will take most settings across for you.

Thanks Colin.

Most settings?

I definitely need the style.css code and also my nav bar settings etc.

What settings would it not take across?

Thanks

Sayontan is the best one to answer exactly what it will take across.

Simplistically AFAIK it will take across the non-specific settings so if you have selected to only show certain pages in navigation then those won't be taken across because the page structure will be different on the imported site. If you have changed any core Suffusion files these will not be taken across. Your custom styles in Custom Includes > Custom Styles will go across.
