Limiting thumbnails

Is there a way to limit the number of thumbnails from a photoset that show up and have the remaining thumbnails show on the next page? I have some photosets with a lot of pictures and would like to limit a page to 30-40 per page and have the next 30-40 show up on the next page(s).

While you can limit thumbnails you cannot paginate them in-page. The only place where pagination works is in a popup panel.
