Can I get Photonic to display a slider or gallery of a specified number of recent featured images? In addition, I'd also like to link those images to the posts for which they are the featured image.

That isn't what Photonic is for. It can display a specific gallery attached with a post, but it cannot display an assorted collection of posts (by definition that isn't a WP gallery)
