Upgraded to 2.9 today. I'm using the Magazine Template as my home/front page (I created a page, then Settings - Reading - Static).
No sooner than I upgraded then, that home/front page now shows up in the Featured Content slideshow, and I can't get it out of there. No, that page isn't toggled in the Featured Content section. To double check it, I created another page, switched it to the home/front, and sure enough, that page started showing up in the slideshow.

I deactivated all plugins, still there.

By any chance is your featured content section set to display sticky posts? Try turning it off.
As I said, I cannot replicate this, which makes it a lot more difficult for me to debug it.

That was my guess, too. It was set to show stickies, I turned that off, problem remains.

Hi,
I managed to replicate the problem - apparently if you have latest posts turned on for featured content and if you have a static page set for your home, this happens.
I am working on a fix.
