Upgrade to 3.9 breaks Featured Content widget

Postby cbrehaut » 14 Oct 2011, 11:25

Since the upgrade to 3.9 the Featured Content widget is blank. I tried to delete it and re-add it. No luck.
Please help. This widget is one of the main reasons I chose Suffusion theme and one of the highlights of my blog's layout. Now it's broken.
Thank you!

There is no such issue that I can replicate. Please provide a URL.

http://www.cedricbrehaut.com/ (please let me know when you've seen what you need to see - I'd rather disable the widget than have it blank for my readers). I do appreciate your fast response.

Here is more info: this behavior only seems to happen with Safari, the widget works fine with Firefox.

I tried it out on FF, Chrome and Safari - no issues on any of them.

I don't know what to do at this point: everything was fine with Suffusion 3.8.x and then in 3.9 this behavior occurs. I cleared my browser cache and tried again. I am using Firefox 5.1 on Mac OS X Snow Leopard. Here is a screenshot

I am using Firefox 5.1 on Mac OS X Snow Leopard.

I thought your display was problematic on Safari.

Anyway, observe the widget titles carefully. You will see that the bottom border has a gap between itself and the sides of the widget. This means that a particular JS file has not executed on a particular browser. If you check with another browser for which things are working, you will see no gap. As I said, I am seeing it fine on all browsers. So I am more or less certain the issue is a problem with your local browser. You might want to log out, then log back in as a different user and try to access the site.

We updated to 3.9.1 and we are having a similar problem with the featured content widget.

Our site is http://www.scio.com.mx

If I make a change in the widget, I lose the content. If I move it to the Inactive area, clear the cache, move it back and clear the cache again - it shows. However, the featured content rotation has stopped working. I am using a page list for the content. I have five pages in the list. I can't go back to the previous version we were using (3.8.2) because it completely breaks the pages now.

I've tried changing the length of time the content is supposed to show, and several options. Everytime I change an option, I lose the widget content in the widget (i get the title but no content at all). If I go through the routine I mentioned above, it can get it back, but it doesn't change content rotation. We have checked on several different browsers (IE, Chrome, Safari) and we get the same results on everything.

There is some underlying bug I don't understand, but it is making what is otherwise a very nice feature, very hard to use.

Try this. Go to Skinning -> Typography -> Drop Caps. For "Applicable post views" don't leave the list empty, instead pick something that you don't use (like Tile layout, or Magazine tiles)

I just tried that. When that didn't change anything I also added a format for drop caps we don't use, and I went through the remove, clear cache routine to ensure we wen't seeing the site before the updates were made.

No change as far as I can see. I can see the widget, but the slideshow does not run. By the way, I have gone through the step of turning off plugins one by one too.
