New width is not showing on CATEGORY VIEW

I'm experiencing a problem with changing the layout of my blog and hoping someone here knows what's going on with it.

I change to two sidebars, one left and one right.

Then I go to other graphical elements - sizes and margins.

I have tried both fixed width 1200px and individual components with sizes as 800 or 1200.

I have also tried fluid with both 80% and 95%, maximum width set to 1500.

No matter what I use, the change applies to every page EXCEPT the posts if viewed from category.

So, it looks fine on the main page, and other pages. But if I click a category, the posts showing within that are not the correct size. I did change all tag, category, etc views to inheret both sidebars. And they do show. It's just the actual width that is not working correctly on category view, NOT the number of sidebars.

Any idea why?

I can't show example because it looks horrible with it not working right so I have to switch it back to one column so the width is functional.

And yes, I cleared cache.

Thanks for the reply. No, the link won't do any good simply because it is not a new blog and I can't keep a shoddy looking design up.

Unfortunately the link you provided doesn't address the issue, because the issue is not with pages nor with sidebars.

It's to do with the WIDTH of the page not staying consistent between the pages and the category view. The sidebars are okay, and the pages are okay. But if you click on the category name, the width reverts to a smaller one instead of a larger one.

I was able to fix this by switching everything under sidebar configurations - sidebar layout to default instead of inherit left, right.

Actually the link helps more than you realize. Read this carefully:

Another related misconception I have seen is more fundamental – users tend to explicitly assign a template to every view (such as categories, date archives etc) and then wonder what they should do for views that are not available (like something introduced by a plugin). This is a case of over-complicating the problem. If you have established a specific layout to your default view (like 1 sidebar, with the first sidebar positioned left), you must not assign the “Single Left Sidebar” to individual templates – that is pointless unless you want different column widths. Instead let everything inherit the default layout. Conversely if you want a single left sidebar layout for every link in your site, simply set the default view to have 1 sidebar with the first sidebar positioned left. Don’t worry about assigning templates to everything else because they will all use the default layout.

Here is the key distinction: you are setting widths in Margins and Sizes. The settings in that page apply ONLY to pages or views styled with a default layout. If you use something like "Single Left, Single Right Sidebars" for categories (and you seem to be using that for everything, quite needlessly), you have to set the widths in Templates -> Single Left, Single Right Sidebars.

Yeah, that makes perfect sense now. I didn't "see" the answer in the link, but after reading it, I was able to fix it anyway, so apparently something clicked. It's a great template, just the matter of finding the right button. lol

First, Many thanks for such an extraordinary professional theme.

Have a tiny problem that is covered by this thread but I'm just not getting it. (reflection on my ability-low).


Using Suffusion -3.9.2 WP 3.2.1, Buddypress 1.5.1 and the most recent install of Suffusion BP Pack on a local install.



on a Mac with 24" screen. 1920px other screens go up to 2560px

For better or for worse, I wish to have fluid-width with Single Left,Single Right Sidebar - uniformly across the installation.


The Maximun width setting in Templates -----> Single Left,Single Right Sidebar--------> Fluid With Settings--- will not accept any number above 1200.


If I set Other Graphical Elements --------> Sizes and Margins ------> Page Width Type -------> to Fluid/Flexible Width

and Other Graphical Elements ---------> Maximum Width to 1920

All of the Buddypress Pages (activity,groups) etc operate with the full fluid width

However the Home page and categories etc do not go beyond 1200.

How can I fix this ?
