chinese character display

Postby xuefang » 24 Dec 2011, 17:32

Hi,
I have searched the forum and am posting my query here.
I started using suffusion3.9.2 and WP 3.2.1 and the chinese chars displayed OK on http://iadrsolutions.com/jollyvip-group/.
This site is experimental.

I am now using suffusion 3.9.5 and WP 3.2.1 and am unable to figure out why the chinese chars are NOT displaying on the page http://mediator4hire.com/jollyvip/

Thanks for reading.
Merry Christmas!
Xue

There isn't any bug in this regard in the theme. You might have a character encoding conflict on your DB.

Thanks Sayontan.
I've deleted the page and also created a new page and a new menu and also experimented with different templates but still no luck. I can't figure out why on www.iadrsolutions.com, the chinese chars were OK.

Happy New Year to all!

This is not a big issue re- the display of chinese chars. Just to confirm that there's an issue as I've created a new site www.iadrt.com from a migration/import from iadrsolutions.com (which has an older version) and the display was fine. Then I upgraded to the latest Suffusion and the chinese chars disappeared as '???'.

Anyhow, Suffusion is still an awesome theme.

Many thanks!

Hello,

Before I leave this topic, I discovered that in suffusion 3.9.2 in my site www.iadrsolutions.com (will disappear after end Jan) the script rounded-corners.css is different from the suffusion 3.9.5 in my (WIP) site www.mediator4hire.com. Somehow the #language-selector rounded-corners.css is not invoked for v3.9.5. This I found out via Chrome - inspect element.
Upon inspection of both the rounded-corners.css, they differ.

Just curious whether anyone has similar issue.

Thanks,
Cher

I just checked another site running 3.9.5: http://www.cevos.net/. It seems to display characters well. I am not sure why you have an issue on your site.

Hello,
Just to let folks know that I've now resolved this issue.
I installed WordPress via cpanel using Fantastico (as this was the recommended route by my host provider) and this caused the issue with the display.
So now I know!
Thanks,
Cher

Hello again,

This issue is now closed and many thanks to Sayonton and also the nice chap at cevos.net who gave me the clues that it's not a Suffusion theme issue.
Worth mentioning that besides the 'default' (which can be anything!) setting with using Fantastico, the 'Reading Setting' within WordPress'Encoding for Pages and feeds' (which I had it set to utf8) did not help to review or change the Collation table in the mysql Db which for chinese chars is utf8_unicode_ci

BTW my site www.iadrt.com is now on suffusion 3.9.6.

Cher
