I have used the query posts widget and a custom template to make a second magazine type page within my site.
I seem to have an issue if the post has a excerpt then that is shown without the [...] link and neither the header or the content links to the original post. If I have a post without a hard coded excerpt then I have the [...] displayed immediately under the title with no generated excerpt displayed. See here http://jvh.orba-design.com/event-reports/
Is this correct behavior? If it is is there any way to get a [...] on the hard coded excerpt?

This is standard behaviour - a manual excerpt will not show the ellipsis. If you want you can force the display of a "Read More" from the excerpt options under Layouts -> Layout: blog... .

Thanks for the info Sayontan. Suddenly auto generated excerpts are showing up after turning the [...] on and then off again, which is what I wanted.
