Single Category Page

Hi, I am struggling with how to create the Single Category Page. I see the template settings in the "Suffusion Theme Options" panel for a Single Category Page, but it doesn't show up in the Templates drop down menu in the Page settings, it only has an All Categories page. For example, what I want to do is create a "news" page and a "upcoming events" page that will show blog posts filtered by their respective categories.

Am I missing something?

??
You don't have to create the page. It is automatically invoked when you are viewing any category.

ok. My dumb. I'll try that then. But will I be able to view categories as their own tabs, or pages?

Thank you so much.

Thanks Sayontan,

I really appreciate your help, and that tutorial was awesome.

I creates another dilemma for me though. What I wanted to create is 3 or 4 slides in the Featured Content area of the home page, and have those images linked to their respective categories or pages. It works with pages or posts, but I don't see how I can set an image in the featured content area to link to a category page. Is that possible?

Thanks again....

No, that is not possible. You can link to a static page, but not to a category.

But if you have that static page redirect to the category, then it would work. This is a perfect situation for using page redirects to blend pages and categories. Make a page that introduces the category, and have it set up to redirect to the category page URL. Then have that intro page display on the featured posts. The category introduction page will then display in the featured posts, but when the link is clicked, they will be taken to the category page rather then to the static page.

Currently, I am using the "Quick Page/Post Redirect" plugin to accomplish this. Once it installs, it displays a URL redirect window right under the page edit area. Simply have the category intro (static) page redirect to the category (page). The end result is that you are now able to virtually display categories as featured posts, as well as mix pages and categories in drop-down menus.
