Showing Categories in Navigation Bar Drop-Down Menu

Postby Bock » 08 Apr 2012, 11:48

I selected the categories to show in Navigation Bar, and those tabs now display as they should. However, the posts in those categories don't appear in the drop-down menus. What am I doing wrong?

The posts aren't supposed to appear in the drop-down. That is the expected behaviour.

Is there any way to make a list of posts appear in the dropdown?

In Wordpress there isn't an automated solution for that. The posts is supposed to appear on pages triggered by menus, not to open other things. But... you can make a standard Custom Menu at Dashboard -> Appearance -> Menus where you can add Pages, Categories and... Links... Give a name to your new menu, add your pages, categories there and add a new link for every post that you wish to be in menu, give it a name and link that name to the post itself. By drag and drop arrange all those items to look like you wish and assign your menu as Navigation Bar Below (or Above) Header - Save -> you have a new menu with the posts in there. Is simplier to do than to explain :)

When you select the option "categories to show in the navigation bar", it creates tabs. But clicking on one of those tabs simply produces the latest post. Would it not be more logical to show all posts in that category? Maybe I'm missing something.

Hmmm, when select a category tab in menu will open a page with ALL posts from that category, not with the latest post. You can't see the latest post on another category page until you don't have selected to show "featured posts" slider on Category view at "Where to show" section from Suffusion Options -> Other Graphical Elements -> Featured Content. If you did that, probably you select also to "Hide Duplicate Posts" below on the same options page at "What to show" section.
Change at least one of those settings and your post will be showed as expected.

And please give us an url to see what happen on your site.

The tabs are simply categories in the navigation bar. I'd like them to show all posts in those categories.

As I said, it isn't something that you can show. Neither in WP nor in Suffusion. There are several practical limitations to showing them, primary being that you can nest categories within each other, and posts can belong to both, parent and child categories simultaneously.

You can consider using a Mega Menu, but that might be overkill for your purposes.

It's a site I'm making for a friend, not me. Since he won't have many posts, maybe we should use static pages instead.
