If I understand correctly, my category menu items are called 'pages of posts' in the back end (Templates > Page of Posts). I also found where I can customize these options (Layouts > Layout: Excerpt / List / Tile / Mosaic / Full). However, is it possible to apply different layouts for different categories? In the Templates > Page of Posts area, I can only seem to set one type of layout for all category pages. I want all the posts from the Writing category to display on the WRITING page as excerpts, but I want the Art category to display as tiles on the ART page.
Example Menu:
Home Page (static)
About Page (static)
Writing Category (display as excerpts)
Art Category (displayed as tile)
Books Category (displayed as full)
Magazines Category (displayed as tile)
Contact Page (static)

Use the custom template for one of your category pages that is the easiest way to do it imho.

Sorry there isn't one. Most of us have learnt by experimenting with what the theme has to offer. This is a site that I am currently working on where I have used this template to give me what I want. http://jvh.orba-design.com/event-reports/. It may give you some ideas. Just look at the widget areas and widgets to get you what you want.

I am super dumb when it comes to all this online web set-up stuff. So, reading most of this forum information is way above my head...
But, I am trying to put together a simple blog website for a non-profit group and would love to make things as simple as possible so we can have someone who knows even less than I do post to the site!
Example: We have a few events each year, I would like to be able to create a post and mark it in the upcoming event category, it would then show up on the front page (which I have a magazine style and it works great!) and on the upcoming events page... After the event is completed I would like to update the post and simply uncheck upcoming event category and check the history category and the post would simple redirect to the history page.
I have tried the "List Category Post" Plug-in with NO success at all.
