Theme prevents comments being disabled

Postby tash » 29 Feb 2012, 09:45

There appears to be a problem disabling comments when the Suffusion theme is in use.

Usually, there is no problem turning comments off in (main wordpress menu) Settings > Discussion

But with Suffusion theme activated, all posts are showing up with a comment form unless disabled one by one in quick edit. This should not happen - the main wordpress settings > discussion choices should be the default for all new posts.

Unless you have a fix for this, I am going to have to stop using Suffusion for blog projects :-(

The Settings -> Discussion option applies to new posts only, not existing ones. I have used it successfully several times. So either you have misunderstood what the setting does or there is a problem at your end. The theme has no bug here

ok, it is probably that the post my colleague has made was not made as new but using the "hello world" post set up by wp automatically - before I turned comments off.

thanks for your quick reply allowing me to identify the problem

I've just discovered this also. It's been awhile since I've updated my blog and now see that Suffusion "over writes the "Discussion" WordPress option with "Additional Options for Suffusion" on newly created pages. No way tp work around that I can see except to use Quick Edit for the page. :(

Huh? It doesn't do anything of this sort.

You are confusing a WordPress change with something completely unrelated. On your edit screen at the top right you will see something called Screen Options. If you click on that you will see some checkboxes. Check the box that says "Discussion". That will automatically show a box below the edit screen for disabling comments.

I have the same problem on different websites with this splendit Suffusion theme. I can not disable comments... I have to disable it by each post and page.
I am using a dutch translation, could this be the problem?

Regards

As in my posts above, the WP setting applies only to posts that you write after switching the option on. For all your older posts you have to manually turn the comments off. Again, this has nothing to do with Suffusion. This is how WP behaves.
