Adding banners ads between posts on Home Page

Postby pilot911 » 29 Apr 2012, 13:59

Hi,

I am using Suffusion on my sites with great success, however i would like (actually i hate this but my friend wants this so I said I would try!!!) to add small Advertising banners between the posts on the home page. I use adrotate elsewhere on the site so would like to continue to use this to control the ads.

Searching on the web i found the following which seems to be waht I want to achieve, I assume that i can swap the adsense codes for Adrotates own.

http://www.lancelhoff.com/adding-adsens ... een-posts/

The trouble I am having (not being a php expert) is to identify the sections of code that is mentioned by lancelhof.com.

Can you advise me, if this is possible.

Thank in advance for your time and assistance.

regards

Chris

Depends on what layout you are using, the wordpress Loop is located in files from "layouts" subfolder of suffusion. If you use a child theme copy this subfolder in your child theme folder and make your edits here. In that way you will have original files in suffusion folder as backup in case that something goes wrong with your edits, and, most important, your changes will be preserved in case of upgrades.

If you don't have a child theme I advice you to spend 5 minutes and make one, before going to edit files.

Also... try to avoid Theme Editor from dashboard - if something goes wrong with your edits you can loose access to backend and to site. Instead, make your edits by ftp - copy your files and edit them locally (I use Notepad++ for that, a great text editor with syntax highlighting). Rename original files on server for backup and upload your edited files. If WSOD appear just delete your files and rename back the originals - the site will be up again - verify what was wrong with your edits and try again)

For child theme you can start from here: http://aquoid.com/news/2012/02/suffu-sc ... suffusion/
Download the starter child theme, unzip and upload the suffu-scion folder on your "themes" folder on server. At Dashboard -> Themes activate the new theme (suffu-scion). That's it, you will use the child theme which inherit all the settings from parent.

For the rest, I told you - in suffusion folder on server is an subfolder named "layouts". If you open the files from this subfolder you will see those lines starting with "if (have(posts)) {" - The WordPress Loop. Those files is named as the layouts you can use. So - if you use full posts you need to edit "layout-blog.php", for tiles "layout-tiles.php" and so on...

Copy "layouts" subfolder to "suffu-scion" - your new child theme - and edit the appropriate file here.
