Query Post widget height in custom layout

Hi,

I've tried to use the 'Query Post' widget, with each post as its own widget, set to 'same height for same row' (in options and in page, custom layout). I do this because I can't seem to find a way to get excerpt text to wrap a left aligned thumbnail in the regular magazine post. In the regular magazine post, the thumbnail always have to be on the top.

Questions:
1) The top three widgets are not lined up with the first widget on the right sidebar, is that the designed behaviour? how can I change that?
2) After putting in backgrounds for the posts, I realized that some of the post contend are now outside of the post box widget. Is it because of the long header? How to fix?
3) Is there a way to change the header of the Query Posts and not the header of the other widget headers in the custom layout?
4) Lastly, is there a way to define a custom size for the Query Post thumbnail? Most of our images are not square.

One more detail, it appears that the widget height problem is only visible under Chrome and Safari, fine under IE & Firefox.
