Zooming images in category view

I need some help, because I am becoming frustrated and I am wasting a lot of time.

Basically, I am working on a very simple Suffusion site, with a post (with two images) for each item of jewellery. Everything is fine, and I can display categories of jewellery (long necklaces, bracelets, and so on) using a "Tile" layout.

I have two problems. The first I have solved, but the solution is not elegant: I don't know how Suffusion (or Wordpress?) chooses the image to be displayed in the Tile. I have tried specifying images as thumbnails, featured images, and so on. I have tried to change the preferred sequence in Suffusion. Nothing makes any difference. What does work is uploading the image that you want to use first. This is klutzy, because then, if you want to use the other image, you have to delete both and re-upload them in the correct sequence. But, if that is the only way, I will have to live with it.

The second problem is more obstinate. In the Category view (using Tiles, remember) I want to be able to click on the thumbnail and then see a full sized image either through the "zoom" facility (which only seems to work in Mosaic?) or by going to a "Post" page with only the image on it. This second facility was working for me, but then suddenly disappeared, and I have not been able to figure out why. Currently, clicking on the thumbnail, the excerpt, or the titel of the post all just go to the post.

Thanks for any help, and sorry to be such a noob!

For first issue, Suffusion provide a powerfull tool. Below edit area in Edit Post Screen you can see Additional Options for Suffusion area. Here, under Image tab, you can specify the path to the desired image to be used as thumbnail either in thumbnail field, or in custom featured image field. If you change the Image Preference Order at Suffusion Options -> Layouts -> Layouts Full/Excerpts....... -> Tile Layout to show first the "Image specified through custom thumbnail (or featured image depend where you put the path at additional options...) field" - for sure that image will be used and not the first uploaded in post.

For second issue, as far as I know, from the tile or excerpt layout, never wasn't possible to open the post attachment page, but the full post was opened when you clicked on the thumbnail. Only from full posts is possible to open the attachment page or to zoom images in a lightbox style window.

Thank you, Drake.

On the first issue, I did try that (and several similar permutations) but none succeeded in changing the thumbnail displayed. (Yes, I did refresh the browser)

On the second issue, the frustrating thing is that I did have it working. It showed the image on it's own in a post-type page, not in a light-box type display -- although I would love that.
