Posting image below header on homepage

There is a beautiful website featured at the very beginning of the screencast here: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=6607 . The Screencast doesn't actually tell you how to create that particular layout.

How do you create a layout for the homepage for the site that has a header and then a banner image below the header but above the nav bar.

Thanks.

It has probably been done with a very tall image, the top half of which has a white background and then below that is the actual photographic image. The blog title etc is then the foreground image and poistioned at the top of the background image in the white area.

Thanks, Colin. I was going to try that myself but I thought there might be another solution within the system. Will edit my image now that I know that it is not possible otherwise.
