Duplicating Site as a Template for Other Sites

Postby topjaba » 19 May 2012, 10:50

Hi-

I'm looking to duplicate the front page of one site and to use that page as a theme/template for other sites. I've tried doing this on the cPanel provided by my host but neither I nor their tech support could figure out exactly how to accomplish this.

Ideally, I'm looking to duplicate the home page of my main site with all of the Suffusion theme styling, custom css, images, widgets and text content and be able to log into a different instance of WordPress and retrieve it as a theme if possible.

If anyone knows how to accomplish this or has a how-to link, I'd appreciate the help.

Thanks

This is not as easy as it sounds.

If your perform a Suffusion export it will only copy the majority of the Suffusion settings BUT NOT the site specific settings like menus.

If you do a full database export and import it will take most of the site over but things like the images that you have uploaded will not go with it.

What you are probably best off doing is a complete close of the site and then just modify the unique pieces for the new site.

See this http://tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/move2/ for some details about moving the whole site.
