Getting Smugmug galleries displaying nicely.

General questions on how to do things using Photonic

Getting Smugmug galleries displaying nicely.

Postby DJBenz » 25 May 2012, 03:58

Hello folks,

I am using the Photonic plugin to embed a SmugMug gallery into my website here:

http://www.abscoutgroup.org.uk/gallery/

This is the code I am using in the page:

Code: Select all
[gallery type='smugmug' nick_name='abscouts' view='albums']

I would like to improve the layout slightly from what it is currently. This is what I would like to do:

1. Have the album open in a new tab/window when the thumbnail is clicked. Currently this only works when the thumbnail title is clicked, even though the thumbnail appears to have a link.

2. Add some space between rows so that the thumbnails aren't squashed together with the titles.

3. Solve the incidents of "double titles"

4. Show something different to "Empty Gallery" when the gallery is password protected.

I don't need any kind of popup directly on the site, I just need to have the gallery thumbnails link to the respective gallery on the Smugmug site. I'm sure it must be simple (maybe 3. and 4. are a little more complex), but the documentation for the plugin isn't very clear.

Thanks in advance.

For 2 try this code in Suffusion Options > Back End > Custom Includes > Custom Styles

Code: Select all
.photonic-photoset-title, .photonic-gallery-title, .photonic-photo-title, .photonic-photo-pop-title, .photonic-album-title {padding:2px 0;}

Colin,
This site doesn't use Suffusion :-).

Daniel,
I was not able to understand most of your alignment questions.

Anyway, here are a couple of things you might want to pay attention to:
1. Add this to your stylesheet:
Code: Select all
.post .photonic-smug-stream ul li { list-style: none; margin: 10px 0; }
a.photonic-smug-album-thumb { margin: 10px auto; }

2. You seem to have a conflict from either your theme or another plugin, which is forcibly inserting a "<code>" tag before a thumbnail - this is in all likelihood preventing your image clicks from working. My guess is if you track this down and disable this automatic insertion, your gallery should work fine. This should resolve #3

#4 is not possible.

OOPS. My bad. I didn't check to see which theme he was using, just assumed he was using the 'BEST' Wordpress theme. :D

And yet your suggestion worked perfectly. :D Layout is much less cramped now.

I checked in the HTML editor and there was a set of wrapping <code> tags added. I have deleted them, and double checked the source code of the page, and there are no <code> tags being generated now, but the thumbnails still don't work to open the gallery.

Still need an answer on this one, if you can work it out.

*EDIT* Also, is it possible to display most recently added galleries (including sub-galleries) at the top of the page?

I didn't realize that your albums were all password-protected. You might want to try this:
1. Go to Settings -> Photonic -> SmugMug -> SmugMug Settings
2. Check the box that for "Private Photos".

This should show a Login button, and people who have access should be able to see the photos. Apart from this password-protected photos cannot be seen at this time.

I managed to get the thumbnails to display for the password protected galleries by messing with the SmugMug settings. :)

The thing I still need help with is the fact the gallery thumbnails still aren't clickable, despite the <code> tags not being added any more.

And, as asked above, how can I order the most recently added galleries at the top of the page?
