Tile Layout Page of Posts with latest post in each Category

I would like to create a page of posts that shows the latest post from each category in the tiles layout.

I'm just hoping for a little guidance.

I'm thinking there is a way for me to do this in a child theme by duplicating and changing layout-tiles.php and using the short code [suffusion-categories] or maybe by using the List-category-posts plugin. Then I think I will need to alter posts.php so that I can still use layout-tiles as it is now and also use category tiles.

If I'm completely wrong in my thinking of how this will work please let me know where I should start.

Try using the "Custom Layout" template. In a widget area, add multiple "Query Posts" widgets, each with one post from a category. You can choose to display a thumbnail and an excerpt of arbitrary length. The only disadvantage is that the bylines will not be available.

That is much easier that I thought it would be. The Custom Layout template is awesome!

I tried your suggestion with query posts, but didn't quite get the look I wanted. I wanted larger images. I used your suggestion for the Custom Layout Template, but with the Featured Content widget, each with just one post so the page doesn't have too much going on. This works great! Looks awesome!

I was able to get everything just how I wanted it in Firefox and Chrome, but after I got it all fine tuned I checked it in Safari and half the Featured Content posts are missing.I set up the Custom Layout Template with Widget areas of two columns. The two columns work fine because my text widgets still show up on each side. But all the Featured Post widgets on the right side don't show up.

Please let me know what might be causing this. Or if you could share with me something like Firefox's and Google's Inspect Element tools for Safari that'd be helpful too.

I have no idea why the Featured Content Widgets are not all showing up in Safari. It shows up just the way I want it to in Firefox, Chrome, Opera and Internet Explorer, but on Safari half the widgets don't show up.

How do you use custom layout template?

In the Suffusion options go to Templates, choose Custom Layout Template and set it up there.
Edit or create a page and under Page Attributes choose Custom Layout.
On the Widgets page add the widgets you want in Custom Layout Widget Areas 1 to 5.

O Cool. You mean this is all I can have a different way out on each page with different widgets on different pages. I've been looking to try to make a plugin work to do this. Do I have your right?

Pages where you select Custom Layout would be the same, unless you use a plugin like Widget Logic to make it so widgets only show up on certain pages.

I fixed my Safari problem!

Safari does have Inspect Elements! I just had to enable it in preferences. Preferences => Advanced => check 'Show Develop Menu in Menu Bar'

I had:
.sliderImage div { position:static;} but in Safari it needed it without the div so...
.sliderImage {position:static;}

Now it's rad! Page of posts with the latest post from each category and it looks just like the tiles I use in the rest of the site.
