Comic Easel

Postby vince20100 » 08 Jun 2012, 18:51

Hello, I'm making a webcomic site and will be using the Comic Easel plugin for page navigation. But I have a problem, the plugin is supposed to add new widget areas (left, right, over and below the post) but it doesn't. I was able to sorta make it work with the adhoc witdget area, but I would like to use comic easel's areas. Do you know if it could be a Suffufion related problem and how to enable the new areas? I'm also looking into the problem with the author, but it's hard to pinpoint what the problem could be, thank you.

Here is my website

I am not really sure I understand how this plugin is meant to work. Don't you have to modify some theme files to make the widget areas appear?

The plugin adds page navigation and features like chapters. The default Wordpress navigation is not suited for comics at all.

Here is the Comic easel thread I started

Well, if a plugin registers widget areas, to see those widget areas in your site you might need to do some specific edits in your theme. Phil (Frumph) should be able to tell you what the widget areas are, and then the edits can be made appropriately in a child theme.

Ok, me and the author have been trying to make Comic Easel work on my site. But at the end we couldn't figure out why it wasn't working properly.
I Tried the following
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/com ... tallation/

The extra widget areas are not showing at all. Some parts of the plugin are more or less functioning. For example, if you look to the right of the page, you can see a simple navigation feature and a chapter selection menu. However, most of the plugin options will not work at all.
This is what Phil wrote:
"Again, and I've posted this on the forum... Suffusion Sayotan(sp?) is really the person to ask where to place those action locations.. I do not know his theme very well.

I have looked at his theme code and it's been a total loss."

I like Suffusion a lot as well as comic Easel and I would like to use them both. Plus I've put a lot of time into my site design and would hate to start over with an other theme.
Thank you and I understand if you don't have enough time to look into this matter.

I agree that I will be able to tell you where to place your code, but without knowing what your desired end-state is, I cannot help you.

What is the code you have added, and to which file?

codes: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/com ... tallation/

I tried to add these lines on index.php and single.php. I pasted it before "content" and switched to before "main-col". I did the same with image.php and post.php.

<?php do_action('comic-area'); ?>
<?php do_action('comic-mini-navigation'); ?>

Additional informations:

1 - Comic Easel uses the "feature image" layout for the comics
2 - I installed 2 multisites apart from the main one
3 - I activated my plugins with each sites not with the "network activate" option

thank you

Oh sorry, forgot a detail, I want to enable the plugin's widget areas. So above, below and sides of the post. Kinda like the adhoc for sure, but would like to make it work with the plugin, it could give me ideas why the rest doesn't work properly.

Can you give me access to your site's back-end?
