Featured slider drop shadow?

Postby Janek » 14 Jun 2012, 03:44

Hi guys,
Is it possible to have a drop shadow on the featured slider?
I would prefer to use the built in one.
If not, the easing slider plugin I have used here (http://systemic.za.org/) has custom coding that I have put at the end of the header code <center><?php if (function_exists('easing_slider')){ easing_slider(); }; ?></center>
My question is if I use this easing slider with the code where it is and update Suffusion or install a child theme will I loose the slider?
What coding do I put into Back-end>Custom Includes so that I can use a child theme and updates with this slider?

First prize would be a built-in drop shadow.
Thanks as always,
Janek

Easing Slider provide a shortcode to be used instead of editing templates. If you add [easingslider] in a simple textwidget in any widget area you will have the slider functional.

If you still wish to use the php code you need to use a child theme. Copy header.php from "suffusion" folder into child theme directory. Make your edits here. At the run time will be executed this file and not the original from parent folder and this file will stay unchanged in case of upgrades.

If you don't use yet a child theme, make one with the help of starter kit from here: http://aquoid.com/news/2012/02/suffu-sc ... suffusion/ , then follow the steps from above. You don't loose any of your customization's if you switch to a child theme.

Hi Drake,
Thanks again for the help :) I will copy the header.php file over.
Another question: When I install "suffu-scion" before activating it gives me the option of a preview. When I do the preview the top menu (above header) is gone. Will this happen after I activate?

Janek

When you install a child theme, it takes all the settings from the parent theme. My guess is that Below Header you have a Custom Menu defined at Appearance -> Menus (a Wordpress "space") and Above Header you have a menu based on Suffusion system menu (defined at Suffusion Options -> Other Graphical Elements). So, probably WP see and use in preview it's own menu, but it cannot understand and use the Suffusion menu in preview.

Anyway, you can't loose anything, activate Suffu-scion and if you aren't pleased what happens, you can always switch back to Suffusion.
