Featured Content doesn´t work

hi there!

first of all: great theme, i really love it. and second: please excuse my bad english

i am a newbie with such a wordpress blog and i have the following problem:

i enabled featured post at main page and tried to link a picture by entering the full URL (additional options), i have also selected a categorie for the featured post in the featured content menu. but it doesn´t work.

at the main page i can see the field for the featured content but it is empty. What do I wrong?

I believe the file http://www.land-der-erfinder.at/wp-cont ... r-init.php is not getting executed. I get a "500 Internal Server Error" saying "Directory "/srv/www/g/gmuthenthaler/land-der-erfinder.at/wp-content/themes" is writeable by group". This is the script that loads the Featured Content script, so you are not seeing anything.

I Googled this error message - it looks like your "themes" directory has all write permissions enabled, i.e. someone has done a "chmod 777" on it. If you have access to a Unix prompt can you try doing a "chmod 755 themes" in the wp-content folder? Maybe that will resolve it.

Note that this is not a theme problem - it has something to do with .htaccess and the access controls of your web-server.

The same thing is happening for me. I get a blank featured section. I've set it up to display items from the Featured category, but it's not working.

Coincidently, my thumbnails don't seem to show up.

I wonder if some resizing script on the server-side is required for these features?

On the Firebug console in Firefox I see the message, "[cycle] terminating; too few slides: 1". So that is your culprit - you need more posts to include.

Yes indeed, you must have at least 2 posted items for it to function! That's now fixed, thanks!!

I doubt this is a problem with your theme, but it seems my images aren't being resized for the thumbnails in the Featured viewer, or with the Excerpt view: they are just shown in their native size. I even selected Excerpt thumbnails to have a custom 200x200 thumbnail.

Am I correct in thinking that these are normally scaled down with some kind of script? If so, what? And is that a script that runs on the server? *researches*

Where are your images residing? If they are on a remote server the resizing might have issues. If, on the other hand, they are attached to the post then there shouldn't be any problems resizing.

The images were uploaded through the Word Press system. Example:

They are resized as thumbnails just fine in the backend, in Word Press' Media Library... strange.

Resizing works fine for me. Try running this test. For a post with images insert a gallery. In your options for the gallery ask it to pick up the thumbnails. See how that goes.
