Translations of Suffusion into other languages

Finnish language

Postby Laforge » 15 Jul 2010, 08:38

Hi

I've tried a few themes and Suffusion is very neat and intuitive. But I'm lacking a translation into finnish.
I'm really new at dabbling with WP and themes and stuff and I'm trying to use qTranslate multilingual web together with the theme to get a multilingual system.

There are places where the finnish isn't translated in the front-end, as far as i've noticed. I've located a fi.mo file but there seems there isn't any fi.po or fi.pot file. This file were in wp-content/languages so I guess it's for WP itself. I havn't seen a finnish translation in the themes directory either. Is there one around? I've tried a few searches on the web to find one.

What is the best way to go about this to make it work?
Thanx for any advice.

The translations for the theme are contributed by various volunteers. If you didn't already know, Suffusion is developed by me alone and obviously I don't have the knowledge of all the languages. So I rely on volunteers to give me a translation. You will not find a Finnish translation for the theme because nobody has done it so far. If you want to create one I can tell you how. I will then include the translation in the theme and distribute it in subsequent releases (with you credited as the author, of course)

Thanks for the quick response and you're doing a really good job.

I'd be happy to add a translation if needed, and I just found the sticky-post where you tell how to translate.
So if I've understood that post correctly I'll take the suf_theme.po (using the latest Suffusion theme) into poEdit, save under a new filename and start translating string by string? Should the filename format be fi.po or fi_FI.po, I've seen both in your translation directory.

Thanx

The steps you have outlined are correct. The file name should be fi.po. See here for all language codes: http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_in ... i_.28fi.29.
