Picasa - thumbnails sometimes cropped, sometimes not

I'm using Photonic to pull in Picasa albums, using this code:

Sometimes the grid renders with thumbnails as 100x100 pixel squares (as a cropped version of the non-square original photo), and sometimes they're the full photo shrunk to *fit* inside 100x100 px (thus leaving extra white space).

The two images below show the issue. I want it to use cropping, as I like the square, filled grid, not the ragged other one.

If, when looking at a page and it's not showing the crop version, I refresh the page a couple of times and it usually redraws properly. I am making no other changes at that time... just a page refresh makes it render properly.

It is a problem on Picasa's side. The code that I have doesn't change, but my belief is whichever server in their data center that Google uses to return the photos probably has the photos set up that way. That is why the thumbnail changes upon refresh.

Ah. I'll log a bug with Google then; no doubt they'll leap to fix it

Same problem here, uncropped images are not nice to look at

...if someone has solution for this please share it here.
