Your styles will not override anything that uses a greater specificity, like #nav ul li a, which is a stronger selector than #nav a, and is used within the theme. I believe your widget area is looking fine - I am not seeing any borders or any specific background color. I found that by adding elements that I dont personaly use such as border-right-width-ltr-source: 0px; and border-left-style-ltr-source: physical; I was able to fix it background-color: #000000...

Well I have restored the origional directory with a back up of the database but all the setting are still gone, even though they are in the correct db table.
