Sorry,

the steps for that are repeated so often here in the forum, that I do not want to repeat me for the 10th or 20th time.

Do a forum search!

For generel insight:

Hi Msprez,

I had the same problem, and Connies answer wasn´t really helpful. There´s a thread in the "How-To" Section, but as far as I understood it, it is intended if the theme has an auto update.

What I did was the following

1.) Go to the dashboard->Tools->save settings (sorry, I´ve to translate this)
2.) Go to the dashboard->Designs and choose another theme (i don´t know wether this is necessary)
3.) Unzip the file of suffusion 3.3.9
4.) Use a ftp program to upload these files to your wordpress installation /wp-content/themes/suffusion
5.) If you have done step 2, now select suffusion again as theme. Afterwards it should show as 3.3.9

I feel sorry to be not very helpful, but nobody is sorry when I have to repeat over and over ;=)

Why is the link to the wordpress-org-tutorial not helpful? It lists all you must know...

have a look here, this is one of the postings, where I listed step by step how to update manually

http://www.aquoid.com/forum/viewtopic.p ... 5224#p5224

and here is the list of steps:
Fire on your FTP-program
go to your webserver / wordpress-installation/wp-content/themes-folder
delete the folder "suffusion"

Download the theme from www.wordpress.org
unzip it at your local disc
upload the folder "suffusion" to your webserver

open the WP-admin
activate the theme
I will ask Sayontan to add one more article in the HOW-To-Section, but as this is not a Suffusion-Special-topic, I really do not see why we should act like tibetan monks with always repeating mantras, when these steps are described at the wordpress-page, in wordpress-tutorials, here in many postings...

sorry that you might think I am unfriendly but as giving support voluntarily, and as the world consists of taking and giving, the work of the volunteers here could be appreciated ...

So I have absolutely NO idea what I'm doing when it comes to the back end of things like blogs, WP, themes, etc. When I saw the "automatic upgrade is not available" for Suffusion 3.3.9 I started to freak out, just a little.

I searched and found a handful of forum posts about it and I started following hendrikm's advice and I guess I didn't follow the instructions exactly - and it worked perfectly and FAST.

I clicked "add a new theme"
In the search box I typed Suffusion
I was given the option to install an updated version.
I clicked OK and BOOM it was done. It WAS an automatic upgrade in this instance, I did not use FTP or anything else which I don't know how to do very well anyway.

Hope that helps.

Bucks,

I am glad it worked for you.

this post is a typical example for unclear questions with unasked solution. :)

You asked how to update manually and we gave you hints
you did not follow them but installed automatically

well, it is working and our hints and tipps would have been too difficult for you to understand

so I would suggest that you stick with automatical updating and avoid manual updating for the future ;)

Cheers,

Connie

Ummm...I didn't ASK anything.

I came across this thread, read it, did what hendrikm said (with a slight deviation) and my upgrade went just fine. Since I saw other people having difficulty and wanted to let people know how it went for me (someone not very experienced) and how I did it.

Yes, I'd love to stick with automatic updating but I, like everyone else with problems in this thread was seeing a notice in our wordpress admin that said "automatic upgrading is not available for this upgrade, download and manually install this upgrade".

But the steps I took resulted in an automatic upgrade (I didn't have to do anything with files or folders, etc) which is why I shared it here - to add to the options available when others come here to read this thread.
