Did "Tools-Export" Save me?

Post by bucks » 15 Apr 2010, 16:20

Hi there,

As you may know from my post in the bug section - upgrading to 3.4.6 from 3.4.5 wiped out pretty much everything I did in Suffusion over the last couple of months except for my content (thankfully).

Before upgrading, in the admin area of WP, under "Tools", I clicked "Export" and an XML file was saved locally.

I've been reading some of the responses regarding how to fix things when something goes wrong and export/import is mentioned several times. So I was starting to feel semi-ok while waiting for a response.

However, I just realized that you've been talking about the export/import that is under "Appearance-Suffusion Theme Options-Introduction". This is NOT the export that I did.

Will I be able to recover from the wipe-out using the file that I have?

I've been reading about the WP export files but still can't figure out whether importing that file back into WP is going to wipe out stuff that didn't get exported with it (like images, formatting of posts, etc). (I don't really know what an XML file is to be honest)

I'm still a newbie so less technical answers are super helpful.

Thank you as always,
Buck

Tools -> Export is something that is completely unrelated to the theme. It exports your WP blog's contents. The export / import that is mentioned is in Suffusion Theme Options -> Introduction -> Export / Import, which stores your theme settings in a PHP file. Before you try any customizations on the 3.4.6 version run the export utility once.

Thanks for the explanation. That's exactly what I'll do. Thank you.
