W.P Plugin "CaptionPix" compatibility with Suffusion?

Post by paulakey47 » 05 Feb 2013, 14:59

About 52 days ago WordPress released a new plug in, "CaptionPix" to enable users to wrap typing around images.
On the details of CaptionPix it states that "it has not been tested to match your theme." Before downloading CaptionPix, I would like you to confirm that it is compatible with Suffusion. thanks, paula.

Paula,

Not heard mention of this plug-in before on the forum. Why don't you try it out and let us know?

This would place me in a guinea-pig situation, Colin. (lol) There is a warning that it might not be compatible with Suffusion or any theme of WordPress.
So I'd like the 'head cheese' who invented Suffusion to reply. I need to be safe!

Paula

I doubt Sayontan has used it yet either bear in mind there are over 17,000 plug-ins for Wordpress so to test that many would be impossible. It needs users to be 'Guinea Pigs' to find out whether something works or not.

Don't forget that you can put your site into maintenance mode for your visitors and then you as the admin can try stuff like this to see if it does what you want without it impacting your visitors. If it works or not when you are ready you can come out of maintenance mode to let visitors view your site.

Also not all plug-ins play nicely together so this plug-in may work with your combination of plug-in's and may not work with someone else's.

You could always set up a testing blog as a sub-domain which is a copy of your live domain and do your testing there. It is what I and several others have done.

Paula,
I could just as easily said "Suffusion has not been tested to work with your plugin". Would you then ask the plugin author for help? I offer open source software that in general works fine with most plugins. I don't test out compatibility with every plugin out there. If you find an incompatibility we can help you fix it if practical or suggest an alternative if known. Additionally I am not quite sure which plugin you are referring to. There is only one plugin called CaptionPix in the repository, which was not released by WordPress but by a couple of developers and not 59 days back but almost 17 months back in September 2011.

Sayontan:

I've downloaded CaptionPix to my site stories4hotbloodedlesbians.com Unfortunately, it does not wrap around the image.

The developer states that, and these are her words, "I don't know why some theme developers assign paragraphs to align right."
There is a way to undo this, but I don't know how. Could you assist, Sayanton? I am so thrilled with Suffusion, so far.

Thanks,
Paula

Huh? The only themes that align paragraphs to the right are purely RTL themes. Suffusion aligns text to the left, which incidentally is what you get by default. See http://www.w3schools.com/cssref/pr_text_text-align.asp for default behavior.

If you provide a link to your site with the issue and a link to the plugin I can take a look.

Thanks Sayontan,
Maybe the developer stated that some theme developers assign paragraphs to the LEFT and I thought she said right.
My site stories4hotbloodedlesbians.com and trishdish551959 is the log in on Hostgator.

Sorry, but I am having a hard time understanding what your plugin is supposed to do. This is the page for your plugin's screenshots: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/cap ... reenshots/. I don't see anything happening there that is not happening on your site. You don't seem to have any captions on your site - but putting image captions is up to you, not Suffusion.

The plugin wasn't updated from September 2011, and from then several major versions of wordpress was released. As of WP 3.4 even the caption system was updated, now you can add formatted captions directly to each images in Media Library. (Not talking about the fact that a picture can be right or left aligned probably from when exists HTML)

And your plugin don't work anymore even on the official site, I can't see any difference between themes at: http://www.captionpix.com/image-captions/examples/
