Need help with custom header foreground image + hiding text

Using
WP 3.5.1
Suffusion – 4.4.6

I hope someone can help me as I am still new to making a website. I would like to have a custom image header and not the text for my title and header and would like it to link to my home site. Also, would this go against SEO by no longer having a text title in the H1 tag? Everywhere I read, this seems to be the case.

I have gone to this link to hope I can find more information, but am still a little confused:

viewtopic.php?f=8&t=250
Use a Logo / Image for the Header and Hide the Text

I have read all of the options 1 thru 6, they all say for the Blog Title, any option other than "Hidden". Is this referring to the text?

Here is #6 that refers to the Header Foreground Image and Blog title:

6. Image header / logo with a custom image as a background - A funny requirement, but definitely useful
Header Background Image Type => Use a predefined image
Header Background Image => Set full image URL
Header Foreground Image Type => Use a predefined image or logo
Header Foreground Image => Set full image URL
Blog Title / Header Alignment => Any option other than "Hidden" (under "Other Graphical Elements -> Header")

Remember:

Your header foreground is always a link that points to your blog
You can hide the "Description" using the "Description / Sub-Header Alignment" option
-------------------------------

If one is to have a foreground image with the site title as part of the image, then is the Blog title only for alignment purposes and means the image if using one? My header image would cover the entire area of what is there now - (text and color), would I align the image to the left?

I would still need it to link to my site and as it states:
"Your header foreground is always a link that points to your blog." How is this done with an image?

Most sites today have custom headers and not plain text. I could see it if there was a function to have the text behind the foreground image header that way the site title in text would still be in the H1 meta tag, and the description is vital, too, but there is no way to do that. I am not good with code. Not sure if this is taken care of with the Suffusion theme. Does anyone know? I also have a paid SEO plug-in, plus I have the SEO theme options enabled where I put in my description and keywords. My source code shows it correctly. Will this still show for SEO if I use an image?

Also, where do I put my site URL if using an image? Does it automatically link with the Suffusion theme or do I have to do something else?
Thanks in advance.

Sorry for so many questions.

SEO: don't know the answers, but I've been using image headers and sites still seem to rank very well. I usually use Yoast SEO.

Header: If you want it to be a home page link, then you need a Foreground Header, so do this:

Go to Suffusion Options > Skinning > Header.

Set "Default styles or custom styles for header" to Custom Styles.
Set "Header Background Image Type" to No Image.
Scroll way down to "Header Foreground Image Type" and choose "Use a predefined image or logo".
In the next box, upload your logo (or paste in the URL).

Save your options.

If the header does not appear, see this post:

Thank you so much, Minty. I was mostly concerned about the main title tags in the header which I confused with the h1 tag. It is important for the Site Title to be between those tags which are different from the h1-6 tags. Also I read your other post. I didn't know that unchecking the text box in the APPEARANCE->HEADER section would make the image disappear. Without knowing that, I probably would do that. Thanks for that piece of information.

I am still working on my image header design and won't be ready to upload it yet, but I was having second thoughts with all the information seeming to say that search engines prefer text in important things like titles and headers. I feel confident now and will use a custom image header. Thanks, again, Minty.

I discovered this yesterday after a lot of head-scratching.

My question is:
I would like to have a header with a clickable image only and no text.
But it appears that the foreground image disappears if the text box is unchecked so
Does this mean you cannot have a clickable foreground image without text in the header?

One workaround would be to get rid of the text in general settings, but I think that would be bad for SEO.

Thank you for the help on the forum.
