breadcrumbs above sidebar...

Post by Connie » 24 Apr 2013, 05:56

Hi, I am back, starting a new installation with Suffusion... and I discover a lot of the features which I didn't use before...

I hope all of you are well and happy!

now I have one problem with the minima skin:

1) mostly I have 2 sidebars, 1 left and 1 right
2) some pages have only 1 sidebar at the right.

In that case, the breadcrumbs start at the left of the content region, as the content starts there. On pages with left sidebars the breadcrumbs start right of that sidebar.

I want the breadcrumbs on the whole width , with or without sidebars as I have quite some levels of content and by that the breadcrumb list is long.

How can I place the breadcrumbs into the widget area below navigation bar, for example? Any hints?

Cheers. Connie

Create a child theme.

In the functions.php of the child theme add the following code:

Code: Select all

add_action( "after_setup_theme", "suffu_scion_theme_setup", 15 );

/**
 * Use this function to add/remove hooks for Suffusion's execution, or to
 * disable theme functionality
 */
function suffu_scion_theme_setup()
{
    remove_action( 'suffusion_before_begin_content', 'suffusion_build_breadcrumb' );
    add_action( 'suffusion_after_begin_wrapper', 'suffusion_build_breadcrumb' );
}

Create a child theme

In the functions.php of the child theme add the following code:

Code: Select all

add_action( "after_setup_theme", "suffu_connie_theme_setup", 15 );

function suffu_connie_theme_setup()
{
    remove_action( 'suffusion_before_begin_content', 'suffusion_build_breadcrumb' );
    add_action( 'suffusion_after_begin_wrapper', 'suffusion_build_breadcrumb' );
}
You might need to do some CSS tweaking after that, but that's about it.

Hi Connie. I'm sorry, I don't know an easy method. The only way I can see is by using jQuery to move the breadcrumbs out of main-col, but I can't tell you how to do that without seeing the site.

Hi Drake,

so it seems there is no "built-in" way to acchieve this. Never mind, I included a breadcrumb-function into the php-able widget and added that into the widget-area...

so I got my solution.

Thanks for your answer,

cheers, Connie
